Ontario Works Ontario Works is a program which provides financial and employment assistance to people in financial need. Every person has the right to apply for assistance and to have an application taken. Eligibility will depend on the applicant's circumstances including the amount of their assets and income. Once an application is approved the person will receive assistance for as long as they are eligible. The amount of assistance depends on the family size and composition, the applicant's needs, income and willingness to participate in approved activities. If an application for assistance is denied, the applicant is advised of the decision and the reason for it in writing. The applicant or participant has a right to appeal any decision made that affects their eligibility for or the amount of their assistance. Non Social Assistance Program The County of Simcoe Social Service Department has allocated funding from the Social Assistance Restructuring Fund to support low income and non social assistance recipients with health related expenses for the following items; eyeglasses, dentures and emergency dental. The funding will assist low income earners, individuals in receipt of Employment Insurance, low income seniors and those in receipt of Canada Pension Plan such as disability benefits. Those individuals who have benefits through another plan or agency do not qualify for this program.
HOW TO APPLY FOR THE NON SOCIAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
To make application, please contact the County of Simcoe Social Services Division at (705) 722-3132 ext 1109 or from the Beeton area, call toll free (905) 729-4514 ext 1109 and an initial screening for eligibility will be completed over the phone. Once the application has been completed, information will be mailed to the applicant along with a self addressed envelope. The mailed information will include a listing of items required for verification purposes including the requirement to return a signed application form. Eligibility will be based on a needs testing, taking into assets, income, shelter costs as well as the cost of the requested item(s)
Funding for this program will be reviewed on an annual basis.
