Questions
1. Why was my Garbage missed?
Garbage can be left behind for a number of reasons. Although this is upsetting there is usually a reason and Customer Service will help to resolve this for you. Is your garbage set out correctly? Was it out by 7am on your collection day? Is it overweight or oversized? Has your collection day moved by one day due to a holiday? Please go to the Environmental Services' Garbage Policy and Set Out Procedure for more information. If you feel your garbage met these requirements and should have been collected please contact Customer Service.
2. Why was my recycling missed?
Recycling can be left behind for a number of reasons. The most common reasons is that the bins contain ineligible material or have not been sorted correctly. Please go to Environmental Services' Paper Fibres Recycling Information Page or the Containers Recycling Information Page for further information. If your recycling met these requirements and you feel your recycling should have been collected please contact Customer Service.
3. Where are the Landfill Sites?
There are currently nine sites which residents of Simcoe County can access to dispose of materials. Please visit the County of Simcoe's Environmental Services' page for a list of Landfill Sites and Transfer Stations to find the one most convenient to your location, including their hours of operation. These are also listed on page 5 of the County of Simcoe's Curbside Collection Calendar.
4. What are Special Collections and when are they?
Special Collections are collections for Leaf and Yard Waste, Brush, Christmas Trees, Bulky Items and Metal Items. Not all Municipalities receive the same collections. To see what is available in your Municipality please see page 4 of the Curbside Collection Calendar or visit Environmental Services' Special Collections Information Page or contact Customer Service.
5. Where can I buy Garbage Tags?
Garbage tags can be used to place out extra bags of garbage for Curbside Collection in all Municipalities. Please visit Environmental Services' Garbage Tags Outlets for a list of vendors in your area.
6. How do I obtain a Curbside Collection Calendar?
You may access an online copy of the Curbside Collection Calendar. Alternatively, one can be mailed out to you if you contact Customer Service.
7. How do I find out my garbage/recycling collection day?
Please contact the County of Simcoe Customer Service Department for this information or alternatively you can find this through our GIS Mapping. (Instructions to be added).
8. What do I do with Hazardous Waste?
The County of Simcoe has extensive programs in place to help residents dispose of their Hazardous Waste responsibly. Please visit Environmental Services' HHW Information Page for further information or alternatively you may visit the Stewardship Ontario Website at http://www.makethedrop.ca/
9. What do I do with shredded paper?
Shredded paper can be placed out for collection in a clear plastic bag next to your blue bin. You may also place small amounts loose in your green bin.
10. Where can I get a blue/grey bin?
Blue and grey bins are available for purchase at all County Landfill Sites and Transfer Stations for a cost $5 each. There is usually ample inventory at all locations but please call Customer Service to check the latest Inventory to avoid disappointment. Some Municipalities have alternative locations or programs in place. You can find out more about these programs or locations again by contacting Customer Service to find out what is available in your area.
11. Where can I get a Green bin?
Residents eligible for Organics collection may collect a Green Organics bin for no fee at County Landfill Sites and Transfer Stations. There is usually ample inventory at all locations but please call Customer Service to check the latest Inventory to avoid disappointment and to confirm that you will be eligible to participate in the program.
12. Why are my Waste or Recycling materials being thrown in the same part of the Collection Truck?

All Trucks collecting on Regular County of Simcoe Routes are Split Trucks. They are either back loading trucks, split down the middle or side loading trucks with two separate chutes one in front of the other. This is also explained on page 3 of the Curbside Collection Calendar. Whilst it may look like the collection crews are tossing your materials in to the same place in the truck they are in fact being loaded separately. |
13. What are Garbage collection Weather Cancellation Procedures?
In the event of adverse weather conditions, it may be necessary to cancel Curbside Collections. Should this occur the Collection Contractor will automatically collect double limits on the regular collection day. The County of Simcoe will post Collection Cancellations on the Website and also attempt to have announcements made on local radio stations. For further information please contact Customer Service.
14. Who should I ask if I have a question about Tenders?
The County of Simcoe's Procurement, Fleet and Property Department manage all Tender Opportunities.
15. How can I find out about Road Closures in the County of Simcoe?
Roads are closed for a variety of reasons including inclement weather. Further information is available through our Transportation Pages or contact Customer Service directly.
16. What activities are allowed in the County Forests?
Various activities are allowed in some of the County Forests. Some activities require permits. For further information please visit the County of Simcoe Forest Recreation Policy or contact Customer Service.
17. Where do I find information on Crown Land?
Access and use of Crown and Conservation Land is not governed by the County of Simcoe and users should contact the appropriate authorities prior to entering these areas. For Crown lands visit www.mnr.gov.on.ca or call1 800 667 1940
18. Where do I find information on Conservation Lands?
Access and use of Crown and Conservation Land is not governed by the County of Simcoe and users should contact the appropriate authorities prior to entering these areas. For Conservation Authority information visit www.conservation-ontario.on.ca.

20. Who do I ask if I have a questions about my Property Taxes?
Taxes are collected and distributed by your local Municipality. Please contact your Municipal Office directly or contact Customer Service to find out which Municipality you reside in.
