Paramedic for A Day

On Tuesday, April 26, 2011’s County of Simcoe Council Meeting, Julia Skoczpiec, was proclaimed the winner of the 2011 Paramedic for A Day Contest.  Julia’s essay, about why she wanted to be a Paramedic for a day, was chosen from dozens of local school children who enter the Paramedic for A Day writing contest.

Julia received a framed certificate, a “junior Paramedic” uniform, badge and stethoscope at the Council Meeting.  She then spent the rest of the day with a County of Simcoe Paramedic Services crew, learning about job, touring a Paramedic station, and observing Paramedics as they staged a mock exercise.

Julia is in the sixth grade at St. Bernadette Catholic School in Barrie.

EMS Week will take place May 15 - 21, 2011.

To date, volunteer County of Simcoe Paramedics have trained and certified more than 4,800 residents in CPR through the Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) and Save-A-Life CPR Day programs.
